چکیده

The aim of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of using remotely sensed data for the determination of important biophysical parameters relevant to carbon modelling in northern boreal forests. Detailed ground and remotely sensed data (Landsat TM) have been collected in a forest area in Siggefora, central Sweden, dominated by Norway spruce and Scots pine. A forest canopy reflectance model has been used to model stand reflectances. Estimates of reflectances obtained from the model have been compared with reflectances measured in Landsat TM-data. The sensitivity of the model to different parameters has been analysed. Results of the study show that differences in satellite derived stand reflectances can be partly explained with a canopy reflectance model. The sensitivity analysis shows that conifer stand reflectance is influenced by the structural features rather than the leaf area index of the stand.

Investigating relationships between Landsat ETM+ sensor data and leaf area index in a boreal conifer forest

The aim of this paper is to investigate the feasibility of using Landsat ETM+ data for the determination of leaf area index (LAI). The investigation is prompted by the need for obtaining spatially distributed data on LAI to be used as input for carbon modelling of northern boreal forests. Detailed field data have been collected in a coniferous forest area in Uppland, central Sweden, dominated b...

Introducing the improved Forest Canopy density (FCD) model for frequent assessment of Hyrcanian forest

Mapping of forest extent is a prerequisite to acquire quantitative and qualitative information about forests and to formulate management and conservation strategies. forest canopy density (FCD) model is one of the useful RS methods for forest mapping using satellite images. One of the most serious challenges in FCD model is the weakness in the calculation of canopy density in low density forest...

Validation of MODIS and GEOV1 fPAR Products in a Boreal Forest Site in Finland

Remote sensing of the fraction of absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (fPAR) has become a timely option to monitor forest productivity. However, only a few studies have had ground reference fPAR datasets containing both forest canopy and understory fPAR from boreal forests for the validation of satellite products. The aim of this paper was to assess the performance of two currently ava...

Determination of suitable sampling methods for study of canopy cover in the Oak Forest

To detection of suitable sampling method to study tree canopy cover in the northern Zagros forest, Baneeh region forest, Kurdistan province, and west of Iran was selected. 40 square sample plots one hectare (100×100 m) were selected and perfect inventoried. In every sample plot the position of tree, kind of species and two diameter of crown (m) were recorded. To study of canopy cover different ...
